Williams Makes three 8 inch pies. *I used to never understand when people didn't like pumpkin pie because I had only had this kind. I didn't know for many years later that it was really squash. It doesn't have the same orange color as pumpkin, but I think it tastes so much better. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Cilantro Lime Hummus

2 cloves garlic, minced 2 (15 ounce) cans garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed 3 tablespoons lime juice 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup olive oil 3/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped 2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and minced In food processor, pulse garlic. Add beans, lime juice and salt. Puree. Slowly add olive oil and blend until thick, 1-2 minute. Add cilantro and jalapeno, pulse 10 seconds. Transfer to bowl, and chill a few hours to allow flavors to meld. My friend Tammy brought this to book club the other night, and all I can say is that I wanted to take the whole container and pour it in my mouth (David Letterman-drinking-Egg Nog- from-the-punch bowl-style).

Candied Nuts

Walnuts, pecans, whole almonds: 2 1/2 c. nuts 1 1/4 c. sugar 1/4 c. water 1 tsp. cinnamon Mix together in a pan over medium heat until liquid is evaporated. Let cool. Toss in your favorite salad. Slivered Almonds: 1 c. almonds 1/4 c. butter 1/4 c. brown sugar Mix together in a pan over medium heat. Remove right when it starts to crystalize . Watch closely because it happens fast and they can burn. Another great one from Jane. Maybe I should invite her to author. Someday I'll post a salad that goes with these. I just had to type these up before the envelope I wrote them on didn't get thrown away.

Mustard Plaster

I posted this on my regular blog a year or two ago, and I'm telling you, it totally works. It is from my Grandma Isobel, and if you have a chest cold or cough it will heal you! It healed me last week. Mix 1 T. ground mustard with 3 T. flour and add just enough hot water to make a paste. Then spread it on one side of a thin cloth (something that can be thrown away) - flannel or an old dish towel work well, and fold the other side of the cloth over it so that none of the plaster is exposed. You can even double the material if it is really thin. Then place the cloth on your chest for 10 to 30 minutes. You will feel your skin start to tingle, and it will start to turn pink. When this happens it is time to take it off. **Make sure you don't let the plaster touch your skin directly or leave the cloth on too long because it can burn your skin and make it blister. My grandma always used it on us when we were little, but just be careful with little kids. After you are done you can plac

Fall Candy Mix

Ingredients: Party Peanuts Candy Corn This appears in our house every October 1st. I just wouldn't be Phall (my new favorite word that means Phoenix Fall) without it. It is so simple and decorative and yummy. The only problem is that once you start you can't stop! It tastes a lot like a Payday bar.

Add lemon juice, zest, and vanilla and continue to beat for another 3 to 5 minutes or until creamy. I made this for lemon cupcakes for a baby shower and it was so good! I did add a little more sugar so it was a little stiffer and easier to pipe with a decorating tip.

If you're a salty/sour/pickle freak like me, this is for you! cucumbers peeled and sliced onions sliced cider vinegar water s&p sugar (optional) Combine cucumbers and onions in a tupperware container. Pour 1 part vinegar and 1 part water over veggies until covered. Add s&p to taste (I always put more on when I eat them). Leave in fridge for about 48 hours. If this is too sour for you add some sugar to the brine to take the edge off. Once you have eaten the veggies you can re-use the brine to make more.

Greek Salad

Romaine lettuce, torn Red pepper, chopped in bite-sized pieces Tomato, chopped in bite-sized pieces Cucumber, quartered lengthwise and sliced in thick slices Red onion, very thinly sliced, slices quartered and separated Kalamata olives, sliced in halves or fourths lengthwise Feta cheese, crumbled Combine salad ingredients and toss.   Amounts will depend on your personal preference and the size of salad you want.  I just keep adding until my bowl is full and it looks good.  I usually will use a whole pepper, one or two tomatoes, about half a cucumber, less than 1/4 of an onion, a big handful of olives, and about half a packaged block of feta cheese (this is a lot of feta--use less if you don't want so much). Greek Dressing: 4 Tbsp. olive oil  3 Tbsp. lemon juice  ¼ tsp. sugar  1 tsp. oregano  ½ tsp. salt  pepper to taste Combine in a tightly covered container and shake until blended.  Pour over salad as much as needed to coat and toss.

Greek Chicken

4-6 potatoes quartered 2-3 lbs chicken pieces 2 lg. onions quartered 1 garlic bulb minced 3 tsp. dried oregano 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp pepper 1 TB oil Layer in crock pot in listed order. Kalua Pig in a Slow Cooker

1 (6 pound) pork butt roast 1 T sea salt 1T liquid smoke flavoring 1. Pierce pork all over with a carving fork. Rub salt then liquid smoke over meat. Place roast in a slow cooker. 2. Cover, and cook on Low for 16 to 20 hours, turning once during cooking time. 3. Remove meat from slow cooker, and shred, adding drippings as needed to moisten. This recipe is so easy, and the meat is to die for. We serve it with rice, macaroni salad, c aesar salad, fresh pineapple and Hawaiian sweet bread. The leftovers make great tacos and burritos; I think the meat tastes a lot like Chipotle's pork. It makes a LOT!

Pizza on the BBQ

We are addicted to pizza on the barbecue. It's the yummiest homemade pizza. You've got to try it while its still good BBQ weather. 1. Turn your grill to a really low setting. 2. Make your dough (any old recipe), gather pizza sauce and mozzarella and the toppings of your choice. I hear Fresh and Easy has a pizza dough you just buy in a little bag, all ready to go. 3. Spray a piece of wax paper (or foil) with Pam and roll out your dough to a size that will fit on your grill. 4. Carefully flip the dough onto your grill and close the lid. Get all your other ingredients outside. It only takes a couple minutes for the dough to cook. 5. Flip the dough over and quickly top the baked side with sauce, cheese and toppings. Bert and I always do this part together so it goes a little faster. Close the lid to melt the cheese but don't burn the second side. Sometimes we even turn the grill off but keep the pizza on the warm grill. Walla! Pizza on the BBQ. You'll feel like you work at
